Hurricane Irma destroys multiple yachts in the Caribbean

Mondomarine superyacht Sierra Romeo suffered heavy damage

Hurricane Irma is the most powerful storm in the North Atlantic and brought devastation to several islands in the Caribbean.

With winds of over 300 kph, a lot of yachts and marinas were destroyed by the hurricane. And it's not over yet. The storm is expected to hit Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba and Florida in the next days.

Until now, the most affected areas are the islands of Barbuda and St. Maarten. Photos have surfaced on social media with several yachts reported as destroyed.

Among them, the 40m Mondomarine M/Y Sierra Romeo and an unidentified Benetti Delfino 93.

Also the Westport 112 M/Y Pipe Dreams is destroyed, with crew members confirming on Twitter that they are safe.
