The biggest cruise ship in the world will undergo a complex refit in Germany. Queen Mary 2 is the flagship of Cunard Line. Launched in 2003, she had quite a busy life, cruising the oceans and operating a transatlantic line between Southampton and New York. Today, after 12 years in service she will undergo a massive refit at the Blohm+Voss shipyards in Hamburg, Germany.

Queen Mary 2 has a length of 345 m and will use the Elbe 17 dry dock for a three-week refit.

Modifications will include new bulkheads and a new layer of eco-friendly hull coating. She will also get updated scrubbers. The pod drives and bow thrusters will undergo maintenance work as well. The living quarters, the hotel, entertainment area, and restaurants will be upgraded as well.

After the refit, QM2 is expected to set off on a ten-day transatlantic voyage from Hamburg to New York, via Southampton.
