A Spanish ferry loses control and strikes Las Palmas harbour

The accident happened due to an electrical failure

A ferry ship belonging to Spanish company Armas was involved in an accident in the Las Palmas harbour.

A witness captured on video the ferry turning left with no reason and hitting the concrete wall protecting the Las Palmas harbour.

The ship involved is the Volcan de Tamasite and 140 passengers were on board. At least 13 passengers were injured. Five of the injured passengers needed medical attention.

The company released a statement saying the captain lost control of the ship within minutes of leaving the port due to a widespread failure of the ship electrical system.

The pier wall suffered major damage, but the ship was towed back to the harbour with a crumpled bow.
