Classic looks

Zurn Yacht Design has teamed up with Hylas Yachts and together they have announced plans for the Hylas M58, in both Flybridge and Sedan configurations.

Hylas Yachts wanted to accommodate the needs of experienced sailors who are looking to enjoy power cruising and called upon Zurn Yacht Design to find a solution. The result, the Hylas M58, will bring together traditional elements from classic commuter yachts and the amenities cruisers expect today.

Working with the specification of Volvo Penta IPS propulsion, Zurn placed the engines aft, near a moderate 16.5-degree transom deadrise. “It’s more of a planing hull, rather than a semi-displacement hull,” Zurn said. “With a fine entry forward warping into that medium deadrise aft, we expect her to be a leader in fuel economy in the class.”

The M58 is expected to have a 30-knot cruise with a range of 750 nautical miles, and a top speed of 35 knots with optional 1,000-horsepower Volvo Penta IPS 1350s.

Standard power is from twin 725-hp Volvo Penta IPS 950s, which is expected to give the M58 a cruising speed of 23 knots for a range of 800 nautical miles, and a top speed of 27 knots.

The hull will be constructed of vinylester resin and cored throughout with Corecell.

Three other Volvo Penta IPS engine options, including the IPS 1350s mentioned previously, round out the power choices.
