Ultra-fast 44m yacht delivered in 1988
Legendary superyacht Octopussy, the vessel that broke the 50 knots record in the 80's is now for sale.
The ultra-fast motor yacht is listed for sale with Moran Yacht&Ship. She was built in aluminum by Dutch yard Heesen to a design by Gerhard Gilgenast. Commisioned by American entrepreneur John Staluppi, the vessel was built to break the 50-knot barrier.
The owner took delivery in 1988, and the ship fulfilled the task, clocking a speed of 53,17 knots and becoming the fastest superyacht in the world. At the time of the record-breaking run the vessel was 38m long.
She was later refitted and lengthened to 44m and lost her ability to reach the 50-knot mark. She can now cruise at 25 knots and can reach a top speed of 32 knots. Power is provided by three MTU diesel engines, each delivering 3,500 hp through three KaMeWa water jets.
She can accommodate ten guests in five double cabins. The asking price for M/Y Octopussy is $4,995,000.
